OUR CLASSROOM WISH LIST
We are so proud of how quickly the school has developed. From one mud classroom in January of 2007 to three cemented classrooms and an office by July we know we are headed in the right direction. One year later the children are full of energy and education - and are ready to be promoted to a higher grade. Before that can happen we MUST build new classrooms. We hope to construct two new PERMENANT structures before the end of the year. Help us make it a reality. DONATE TODAY!
From the ground up... literally.
Welcome to Tumaini Academy .... In the beginning we used one small classroom packed with children and a volunteer teacher.
We couldn't afford uniforms either.
...
or desks!
The process of building a semi-permenant school structure is actually incredible in itself. As you can see we start by winding grasses around the building in order to create a structure for the mud to be packed into. Once the mud has been packed it starts to look like a real building. After that we put a layer of cement around to protect it from the damage of the African rains during rain season. ... Building desks and buying school uniforms was the next step. Now the children enjoy the comforts of a real school room filled with educational materials....

Today the school looks like this. We have 3 classrooms and a small administration office. The kids enjoy playing soccer during break thanks to donations from abroad.
